The Recruitment Process

There is a danger of institutions competing for a small pool of minority Ph.D.s -- especially the academic "stars".

However, a thorough and aggressive search may yeild surprising results. Insist on results and hold department heads and academic administrators accountable for impoving minority participation in the recruitment pool. This approach may turn up minority candidates that otherwise would have been missed.
