Welcome New Faculty and Staff
Carnegie Mellon is committed to creating an exciting place for its employees to work and learn. We provide a comprehensive benefits package as well as many enrichment opportunities. Below are some activities you should complete within your first 31 days of hire.
- View our New Employee Orientation, Carnegie Mellon and You: Today and Tomorrow. Please allow a few moments for video components to load. Note: New emoployees will be mailed this presentation in a CD format.
- Sign up for your benefits. You can
do this any time during the first 31 days after you are hired.
- Use HR Connection for New Employees to enroll in the insurance benefits we provide.
- Enroll for your Retirement benefits using the appropriate TIAA-CREF or Vanguard applications and the Salary Reduction Agreement (.pdf) if you will be participating in a Supplemental Retirement Account. (See the Enrolling in Your Carnegie Mellon Retirement Benefits (.pdf) helpsheet.)
- Complete/Sign and return other important documentation:
- Present the appropriate forms of identification (such as Social Security card and driver's license, or a passport) to Payroll Services to satisfy the requirements of the I-9 form so that you can be paid.
- Sign and return the forms in the Workers' Compensation Packet (.pdf)
- Read the Intellectual Propery Policy and sign/return the Intellectual Property Policy Agreement Form.
- If you are a disabled employee, a disabled veteran, or a Vietnam era veteran, you may self-identify as such via the Employee Self-Identification form (.pdf)
- Complete the Preventing Sexual Harassment training within your first month of employment. This computer-based training session is available online.
- Take a look at Learning and Development offerings. Many will help you get up to speed on university processes and systems. We offer seminars on financial and personnel IT systems, as well as professional and personal development programs.
