Interactive Theatre
History
Interactive Theatre debuted at Carnegie Mellon University in 1998 modeled after a similar program at Cornell University. A recommendation in the Women's Commission Report served as the basis for its implementation. The program is very much aligned with the strategic plan's focus on community success. The provost has supported the development of a scenario that deals with chilly climate and scripts have recently been developed related to sexual harassment and diversity.
The Interactive Theatre program at Carnegie Mellon has received attention from the Pittsburgh community as well, receiving the "People Do Matter: Recognizing Innovation in Human Resources" award from the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association. The program was also awarded a grant from the William and Flora Hewlitt Foundation Plurality and Inclusion Program so that it could continue its expansion.
In addition to members of the Carnegie Mellon campus community, the Interactive Theatre Company has also performed for several businesses including:
| Freemarkets |
|
| Geneva College | |
| Highmark | |
| Mellon Bank | |
| Nova Chemical | |
| Research Administators Council | |
| University of Pittsburgh | |
| U.S. Department of Defense |
Currently, DVD-ROMs are being developed using synthetic interviewing to supplement live performances. Participants will be able to watch a scenario on the DVD-ROM and then ask the actors questions. Actors on the DVD-ROM will then be able to respond accordingly based on previously recorded questions from live performances.
